Death of Gemma Galgani's Mother
Gemma was quite close with her mother. This is shown by her Moon’s prominent place in House 10 and conjunct her Medium Caeli and that her Moon is diurnal. Her mother was pious and taught her daughter to be so. As her mother was dying, Gemma desired to be taken as well. It is likely that Gemma’s abhorrence of sin largely stemmed from her wanting to be reunited with her mother in Heaven.
During Gemma’s confirmation into the Church, she received an inner locution from Jesus of her mother dying. This occurred at Gemma’s confirmation into the Church.
“I heard Holy Mass,” she said, “as well as I could, praying for Mamma, when all of a sudden, a voice at my heart said to me: ‘Wilt you give me Mamma?’—‘Yes,’ I answered, ‘but provided You take me also.’—‘No,’ replied the voice, ‘give Me unreservedly thy mother. You hast to wait for the present with thy father. I will take thee to Heaven later.’ I was obliged to answer, ‘Yes,’ and when Mass was over I ran home. Oh! the ways of God!”
Saturn is conjunct Gemma’s Moon and squaring her Saturn/Sun conjunction. So, the first thing is Gemma going through a Saturn square. The sacrement of confirmation is where a person is “imprinted” and “sealed” with an indelible mark making them a member of the Catholic Church. So, the Saturn/Moon conjunction and square shows this: “Priest (Saturn) Imprint (Saturn) on Girl (Moon).” The confirmation is also shown through the angle on her Neptune (Catholic) and Mercury on Neptune, too.
The inner locution is shown in transit Mercury conjunct Neptune oppose Moon square Juno. “Communication (Mercury) from Savior (Neptune) of Mother (Moon) Death (Juno).”
On her Mother’s death chart:
The first dramatic aspect is the Medium Caeli is conjunct Gemma’s Moon. “Child’s (Venus) Goodly (Jupiter) Mother (Moon) Suddenly (Uranus) Gone (Pluto).” The transitting Moon is conjunct Gemma’s Neptune and Chiron in early Taurus. Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Venus. “Catholic (Neptune) Child’s (Venus) Mother’s (Moon) Pain (Mars) and Breath (Mercury) Ends (Saturn).” Ultimately, the Moon moving conjunct her Neptune is showing the mother (Moon) has gone to Heaven (Neptune).
There is also the transitting Vertex conjunct her Saturn/Sun and transitting Sun. The Vertex, like all angles, mark and time important events. Saturn-Sun = “End (Saturn) Life (Sun).”
Chiron is difficult to narrow down. If Chiron has Saturnian qualities (many call it a mix of Saturn and Uranus) then it’s showing a mother’s death. It may also be showing Gemma’s emotional torture in this moment. There may also be some detachment here. I have yet to see a solid consensus on what Chiron means, especially when reading it being aspected or aspecting.
Transitting Orpheus is contraparellel her Neptune/Chiron conjunct. Orpheus is showing an extreme grieving that Gemma will not let go of. Orpheus is an asteroid that is almost always about death. Orpheus is at a 75 degree aspect with transitting Moon (“squile”). The 75 degree aspect is of Uranus, Venus and Jupiter, Neptune. Thus, we have almost a repeat of the subrulers of 6 Taurus. “Child (Venus) Grieves (Orpheus) Goodly (Jupiter) Mother (Moon) Leaving (Uranus) for Heaven (Neptune).”
Hades semisextile Saturn. Hades is given both Saturnian and Plutonian associations. Thus, we may have “Sickly Death (Hades) brings Depression (Saturn).”
Hades contraparellel Uranus. “Sudden (Uranus) Sickly Death (Hades).”
Hades square Pluto. “Bacteria (Pluto) in Sickly Death (Hades).”
Juno square Saturn. Juno is fast moving Saturn. Thus, we have a Saturn square. The aspect is showing a Saturnian event. Death.
Juno contraparallel Chiron. Again, if we read Chiron as Saturn-Uranus, then we have a sudden death.
Juno quincunx Pluto. “Depression (Juno) [over what is] Gone (Gone).”
Chiron square Saturn. Another aspect showing a sudden death.
Chiron trine Venus. “Woman’s (Venus) Sudden Death (Chiron).”
Chiron semisextile Pluto. “Emptyness (Pluto) in Sudden Death (Chiron).”
Chiron contraparallel Orpheus. “Mourning (Orpheus) Sudden Death (Chiron).”
These aspects and objects all show a dramatic death with alot of depression and grieving over it.
